Target’s app and website are experiencing major issues, according to Downdetector.
The outage is affecting the company’s ability to fulfill online orders and process some gift cards.
US shoppers are now in the final week of the holiday rush.

There’s never a good time for your shopping app to stop working, but the week before Christmas has to be one of the worst.

As the holiday shopping season enters the home stretch, Target’s app and website have been affected by an outage that is disrupting the company’s ability to fulfill and track online orders.

“We’re aware of intermittent issues with our digital experience and a fix is underway,” a spokesperson said in a statement to Business Insider. In the meantime, the spokesperson said Target’s stores remain open and ready for holiday shopping and that the company apologizes for the disruption.

The website Downdetector showed a rising number of reports over the three hours on Friday, and a post on the company’s X profile at 10:16 a.m. ET advised customers to try their transactions again after one to two hours.

“We’re sorry for the frustration this has caused and understand how important it is to be able to view the order that you were charged for. Our team is aware of the website issue and is working quickly to resolve it,” the @AskTarget customer service account said in reply to a shopper’s question.

The issues also appear to affect Target’s ability to process some gift cards.

With less than seven days left in the holiday shopping rush, retailers are facing record-high online order volumes.

US online shoppers have spent more than $187 billion so far this season, up 6.1% from the same period last year, according to Adobe. The company estimates e-commerce spending will top $253 billion by the end of December.
