Average hourly earnings increased 15 cents, or 0.4%, to $36.24 in May. Over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have grown…

Right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones speaks to the media after arriving at the federal courthouse in Houston for a bankruptcy hearing in June 2024. David J. Phillip/AP hide caption toggle caption David J. Phillip/AP After a frustrating and futile three years in federal bankruptcy court, the Sandy Hook families who sued Infowars conspiracist Alex Jones for defamation thought they were finally getting closer to collecting the $1.3 billion that he owes them. But as a hearing in federal bankruptcy court in Texas got underway on Thursday, things seemed to be going the other way, with all parties showing signs of…
Ken Griffin’s financial companies extended invites to less than half a percentage point of applicants for the firms’ 2025 summer internship program.Read that again if you need to.Citadel, a hedge fund, and its sister firm Citadel Securities, a market maker, accepted just 0.4% of students who applied for this year’s summer training program. It’s a record level of exclusivity even for a pair of firms known for recruiting only the brainiest quants and traders. One reason may be the record number of applicants, 108,000 across the two firms — up 20% from last year. The group of more than 300 students will…
One of the clearest takeaways from New York’s Andreessen Horowitz-sponsored Tech Week — a decentralized sprawl of happy hours with panoramic rooftop views, panels, and, this year, pickleball matches — was this: When it comes to building startups from AI to consumer to deep tech, New York is no longer playing catch up to attract startup interest. It might just be pulling ahead. Panelists speak at a defense tech event hosted by Haus, a deep tech public relations and communications firm, and Stonegardens Advisory, a consultancy that advises startups breaking into defense, in downtown Manhattan. People wait in a cue before being led into a downtown Chicago building where an immigration court presides in November 2024 in Chicago. Charles Rex Arbogast/AP hide caption toggle caption Charles Rex Arbogast/AP Matthew O’Brien started his tenure as a judge in a Virginia immigration court at the end of the first Trump administration. He was dismissed at the end of his two-year probationary period under the Biden administration. His dismissal — and that of several other judges whom President Trump brought in in his first term in office — sparked immediate GOP outrage and claims of political interference. The…
Adam Foroughi tends to eschew the typical trappings of a billionaire. He has one car, and would rather it were self-driving. He rarely appears on TV or conference stages. In his downtime, you’re more likely to find him at home with his five children than schmoozing on the slopes of Davos. People who know him point to his mild manner and lack of ego.His advertising technology company, AppLovin, is similarly unflashy. With an ad network that reaches around a billion daily users and a market cap more than twice that of Snap, Pinterest, and Reddit combined, it was the technology behemoth…
A Business Insider analysis of more than a decade’s worth of executive compensation data suggests that some corporate leaders could be enriching themselves by timing market-moving announcements around scheduled stock options grant dates.Stock options give an employee the right to buy company shares at a fixed “strike” price, normally set on the day the option is awarded, and sell them later at market value. Stock options are designed to be an incentive to improve company performance — the bigger the gap between the strike price and the eventual market sale price, the bigger the payday. After the options backdating scandal of…
Quiet on set, people!” said Brock Pierce, the former child actor who grew up to be a prominent cryptocurrency entrepreneur. A hundred or so people sat in various states of conversation and intoxication at a Las Vegas Maggiano’s that DNA Fund, a Pierce-founded venture, had rented out for several days during the official Bitcoin 2025 Conference last week.We had just heard a bizarre speech from New York City’s mayor, Eric Adams, who said Pierce and his colleagues in crypto were “pioneers” like Betsy Ross, who became a historical icon for stitching the first American flag featuring stars and stripes.”So although…
