Rodefer Moss launches transaction advisory service to CPA firms

Rodefer Moss & Co., a CPA firm based in Knoxville, Tennessee, introduced an advisory service to help its clients — and other firms’ clients — who are looking to make a transaction.

The service line, Rodefer Moss Transaction Advisors, offers business valuation reports and calculations, quality-of-earnings reports, financial physical (business wellness) assessments, and tax compliance and strategic tax advisory. The firm partnered with DCF, a FINRA/SIPC member that has facilitated over $2.7 billion in business transactions, to enhance its offerings.

“When it came down to the actual sale transaction, we would have to step back and let somebody else take that because we didn’t have the credentialing,” Rickey Luttrell, executive director of advisory services at Rodefer Moss, told Accounting Today. “This enables us to truly be with our clients from infancy all the way through their largest transaction, when they’re selling their company, rather than having to step out at the eleventh hour.”

Luttrell and his team saw a need for this kind of service in the East Tennessee region: “There’s really nobody else doing this type of work in that market,” he said. But rather than competing with other firms, Rodefer Moss aims to conduct transaction services on their behalf.

“If another firm’s client is looking for a sale, we can be there to help with that without the fear of, they’re going to try to poach the audit work or poach the tax work,” Luttrell added.

Rodefer Moss was founded in 1990. It has roughly 70 employees and two offices in Knoxville and Brentwood, Tennessee. The transaction advisory team consists of seven employees.
