Bill launches agents for W-9s and reconciliations

Payments solution company Bill announced a suite of AI agents designed specifically for small and medium businesses.

The W-9 Agent uses artificial intelligence to provide touchless tax compliance that eliminates over 80% of manual steps for collecting W-9s. Expected to be available by Thanksgiving, the agent autonomously requests and pre-validates W-9s from vendors. Meanwhile, the Reconciliation Agent is a touchless receipts agent that automatically codes transactions, so receipts reconcile themselves. It also provides full visibility into expenses. Bill also touted a new onboarding agent in its Spend and Expense solution tailored for each business, to automatically create virtual cards and permissions. Bill announced a new agentic AI assistant that provides personalized answers and intelligent recommendations, and completes certain tasks on behalf of customers.

These releases reflect an emphasis on “touchlessness” by the company, saying that agents remove the need for manual workflows.

“Think: A world where business operations run themselves, while people stay in control. Receipts reconcile themselves. Expenses complete autonomously. Users onboard seamlessly. Books balance automatically. Payments delivered securely and efficiently. The ability to scale capability without scaling headcount. Autonomous finance that drives at the speed of business with accuracy, reliability, and security,” said the company’s blog.

Bill founder and CEO Renee Lacerte said the solution will act as an equalizer between small and large businesses, giving leverage to what he referred to as as the “Fortune 5 Million” of businesses that still lack automated workflows.

“The Fortune 5 Million deserve the same power and precision as the Fortune 500,” Lacerte said in a statement. “Bill AI removes friction from the back office by deleting the workflows that bury businesses. With data from having made over a trillion dollars in payment transactions across a network of millions of businesses and accounting firms, we are uniquely positioned to deliver AI at a scale that is unmatched in our category. The future of fintech is touchless B2B transactions, and Bill is leading the way for SMBs.”

Bill is also planning to add agents for touchless travel, touchless email replies, touchless AP coding and more in the future.
