A tough month for fixed-income investors resulted in a muted month for the hedge funds’ biggest names that invest across asset classes.
Izzy Englander’s $97 billion Millennium Management was flat in September, a person close to the New York-based manager told Business Insider. The firm has gained 8.1% on the year.
Michael Gelband’s ExodusPoint Capital Management lost 0.7% in September, according to a person close to the firm. Gelband, who was once led Millennium’s fixed-income unit, has now returned 4.1% in 2026.
At Ken Griffin’s Miami-based firm, Citadel was able to overcome the bond market turmoil and generate a return.
The $76 billion firm was up 1.1% in its flagship fund, a person close to the firm told Business Insider. That puts the fund’s year-to-date gains at 13.4%.
Griffin’s equities-focused funds — which soared after the manager bought Leopold Aschenbrenner’s public portfolio at a discount at the end of July — continued their strong year in September. All four fundamental equities businesses at the firm were positive last month, the person close to the firm said, and year-to-date performance for its Tactical Trading fund that blends quant and traditional stockpickers is 28%.
For players more focused on picking stocks, September was an easier ride. The S&P 500 finished the month down roughly 0.5%, but managers including North Rock Capital and Dymon Asia made money. Schonfeld Strategic Advisors’ flagship fund was flat in September, but is up 6.8% in 2026.
The firms mentioned declined to comment. Numbers will be added to the table as they are confirmed.
